As previously discussed, I am a huge fan of lists. One of my favorite things to do is make a list and check things off. I also love classic movies. There’s something about relaxing on the couch while watching a movie in black and white that can’t be beat. For my first movie challenge, I’d like to watch all of the movies in the American Film Institute’s Top 100 Films. In honor of the Fourth of July the first movie on the list (counting back from 100) was fittingly Yankee Doodle Dandy.
Here’s the storyline per IMDB:
“A musical portrait of composer/singer/dancer George M. Cohan. From his early days as a child-star in his family’s vaudeville show up to the time of his comeback at which he received a medal from the president for his special contributions to the US, this is the life- story of George M. Cohan, who produced, directed, wrote and starred in his own musical shows for which he composed his famous songs.”
I really enjoy a musical and James Cagney’s dance moves are so fun to watch. This one may not make it in my top 10 musicals, but I did really enjoy listening to all of the patriotic music on the Fourth.
